Speech Day 1967 Douglas Bader Speech days Home Page
As the headmaster Mr.H.A.Wrenn delivered his report Group Captain Bader sat listening in a temperature of over 70 degrees, Casually he rose, apologised for interrupting Mr. Wrenn and took off his jacket. Then Mr.Wrenn told pupils they may follow suit and many were obviously grateful for the Group Captain's initiative. "No matter what you do in the future you must be able to look yourself in the eye......A school exists basically to teach its pupils the difference between right and wrong. Having left school, at some time or other in the lives of many of you, someone will suggest that you can live more easily and profitably by being dishonest. Each generation has its own standards and whatever you do remember that you have to live with it."
